RHINOPLASTY/ NOSE SURGERY
Rhinoplasty or nose surgery, sometimes referred to as "nose reshaping” or a "nose job,”
improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self
confidence.
Rhinoplasty surgery is becoming one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery performed in the UK.
There are many reasons to choose to have rhinoplasty varying from patient to patient, some cosmetic and some medical reason. Whatever the reasons to have rhinoplasty nose reshaping surgery are, it is always wise to make sure you are fully informed of the surgeon qualification and the procedure itself.
Dr. Joffily will offer you a very comprehensive consultation before your procedure to make sure you will be informed with all the necessary information.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and in the majority of the patients on a day case base.
SURGERY TECHNIQUES:
There are two options of nose surgery: THE OPEN AND THE CLOSED TECHNIQUE:
Open Rhinoplasty:
Rhinoplasty that refers to the surgery that is carried out on the external side of the nose as well as on the internal side is said to be Open Rhinoplasty. In this type of Rhinoplasty, incisions are made on the Columella (the bridge connecting the nostrils) and other parts as necessary. Surgeons opt for this if you wish to reshape your nose extensively, including the tip of the nose and other aspects of its. If you wish to reduce your flared nostrils and modify other visual aspects of your nose, then this is the method for you to consider.
Closed Rhinoplasty:
This form of technique involves work that is done only using internal incisions; no external scars will be placed on the inside.
This technique is sometimes preferable when the objective is to treat the nose bridge only and not too much need to be done on the tip.
The decision on what is the best technique for your particular nose will be discussed extensively with your surgeon during the consultation.
After your procedure is completed, a splint or bandage will be placed on the outside to support and protect the new structures during initial healing.
You will be given specific instructions to follow during your recovery from rhinoplasty: How to care for the surgical site, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when to follow up with your plastic surgeon.
Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon specific questions about what you can expect during your individual recovery period.
